God has always been missions-minded. Throughout the entire Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, we can readily see that God has always intended people from every “nation, tribe, people, and language” to know and worship Him. (Revelation 7:9) One of our primary responsibilities as a church is to continue with the missions work that God has started.
Our missions program has several facets to it: 1 prepare and equip potential long-term missionaries through short-term trips and education;
2 commission people from our church to go into the missions field as long-term missionaries; 3 educate and equip our congregation to be supporters of the missions effort through prayer and finances.
Every year, we encourage individuals to go experience short-term trips and see what God is doing in other parts of world. We have also commissioned people who committed to long-term missions to go to different parts of the world to spread the Gospel.
Freedom House opened in August 2010, and is a non-profit, Bay Area, Christian safe house for survivors of modern day slavery. KCPC has partnered with Freedom House by having members volunteer and donate items for the house’s opening. KCPC hosted several training sessions as well as the April 2011 benefit dinner.
God is doing great work through Freedom House, and volunteers have also organized optional weekly fellowship sessions for these women, where they praise God and study the Word. It’s amazing to see how God reveals Himself to these women as they overcome their trials! Volunteers also work directly with the survivors, advocate on behalf of Freedom House, plan events, provide translation or other services, donate household items, contribute financially, pray, and more!
Edgewood Center for Children and Families helps children and families take back their future by working with them to overcome severe challenges like abuse, neglect, mental illness, and family crisis. The oldest children’s charity in the western U.S., Edgewood has evolved to meet the community’s changing needs. What began as a refuge for Gold Rush orphans more than 150 years ago is now a nationally recognized, multifaceted agency. Edgewood serves more than 5,000 children and families in the Bay Area each year through community and residential programs.
